Midvale, UT -- February 19, 2012: Local photographer Candace Tarkeshian has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign ( http://www.kck.st/NEthingBut ) to raise funds for a documentary, "Anything But Slothful," to be released in late 2012 along with an accompanying photo book. Candace will be traveling to The Costa Rica Sloth Sanctuary, having earned acceptance to the Sanctuary's new "Artist in Residency" program, aimed at providing artists from around the world with the opportunity to live and work at the Sanctuary in order to create artistic and education projects mutually beneficial to the artist and the sanctuary. Candace is to arrive at the Costa Rica Sloth Sanctuary on the second day of April, 2012.
The Costa Rica Sloth Sanctuary, whose inhabitants were recently the subject of Animal Planet's "Too Cute! Baby Sloths," is the world's only sloth sanctuary and hospital. Candace's documentary, "Anything But Slothful," is intended to focus on not only the sloths at the sanctuary, but also the lives and daily tribulations of the staff and volunteers who provide care for the animals. Candace also hopes to portray the negative effects that the seemingly innocent actions of tourists can have upon the local wildlife, as well as the poaching practices which victimize baby sloths.
“I’m talking to musicians about scoring the film and preparing my family to take care of one another while I’m gone. Nobody ever thinks they’ll get a chance like this. Even the few who dare to dream about it don’t think it’ll happen in less than 2 months. Right now the focus is on fundraising for better and more efficient gear and getting the right host for the documentary. If I had my pick, I’d like to see Kristen Bell host. Her recent declaration of sloth love hit the internet right after we started planning this documentary. I’d love to give her fans another reason to fall in love with the animals she’s fallen in love with. Every time I learn something new about the sloths, I think about how much I’d love to share this with Kristen. I’ve been blessed to have this opportunity and to have my first choice in musicians, Levi Weaver, agree to write the score, so who knows? Anything could happen.”
The Anything But Slothful Kickstarter campaign offers a variety of enticements for those who love the cuddly two-or-three toed creatures and support the effort, from stickers to sloth-loved teddy bears to individualized videos. As Candace has already paid for airfare and lodging in Costa Rica, the campaign is intended to raise funds for supplies and equipment for the project in order to drastically improve the production values and the amount of filming that can be accomplished in Costa Rica.
